If video plays but there's no sound on an Onn streaming box, it's almost always the device, not the stream. Onn boxes are known to lose audio after waking from sleep or switching apps.
Quick fix
Long-press the Home button on the Onn remote and choose Restart. Sound usually returns within a minute. If that doesn't work, unplug the box from power for 10 seconds and plug it back in.
To stop sound loss from coming back
- Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Advanced sound settings and set surround sound to Never use surround sound. This makes the box output plain stereo, which TVs and soundbars handle without dropouts.
- Go to Settings → System → Power & Energy and turn off Quick Start (or Energy Saver) if you see it. This makes the box boot clean instead of waking up with a crashed audio driver.
If you use a soundbar or receiver and it still happens
- Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Advanced sound settings → Select formats, switch from Auto to Manual, and tick only the formats your soundbar supports (for example Dolby Digital). If it still cuts out, set it to None/Stereo.
- Go to Settings → Display & Sound → HDMI-CEC and turn it off, then back on, to reset the connection between the box, TV and soundbar.
If sound is missing on only one channel, that's a source-side issue — let us know which channel so we can check it.
